Directions
Discussion: Apply Knowledge
Step 1: Consider the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, and Time (PICOT) question developed in Week 2.
Step 2: Locate one quantitative article that addresses your PICOT question and answer the discussion prompts below with explanation and detail.
Paragraph one: Write your PICOT question. Discuss the quantitative nature and purpose of the study you have chosen. How do you know this is a quantitative study? What type of quantitative study is it? What is the purpose of the study?
Paragraph two: Discuss the method of the study. How did the researchers collect the data? Do you believe this method is adequate to address the purpose of the study? What is the sample in the study, and is it appropriate, given the method?
Paragraph three: Summarize the findings of the study. What is the projected significance of the study to nursing? What are the recommendations for future study?
References: Provide complete references for all citations. Include citations and a reference for the quantitative study you selected to address your PICOT question.
How to Approach Each Section
Paragraph One – PICOT and Study Nature:
Restate your Week 2 PICOT question clearly.
Explain why the study is quantitative (e.g., it collects numerical data, tests interventions, measures outcomes).
Identify the type of quantitative study:
Randomized controlled trial (RCT) – tests effect of intervention with random assignment.
Quasi-experimental – tests effect of intervention without full randomization.
Correlational – examines relationships between variables.
Descriptive – describes characteristics or trends numerically.
State the study purpose: why the researchers conducted it and what they hoped to measure or prove.
Paragraph Two – Methods:
Describe the data collection process (e.g., surveys, observation checklists, patient records, lab results).
Explain why the method is appropriate to answer the research question.
Provide sample details: number of participants, inclusion/exclusion criteria, setting, demographics.
Evaluate whether the sample size and method are adequate to achieve reliable results.
Paragraph Three – Findings and Significance:
Summarize the key results numerically (percentages, rates, statistical significance, effect sizes).
Explain how these findings impact nursing practice (e.g., reduces errors, improves safety, informs policy).
Mention recommendations for future research (e.g., larger sample, different settings, new interventions).

Ensure APA 7th edition formatting.
Include DOI or permanent link if available.
Include all studies cited in your discussion.
Sample Solution
In elderly adults aged 65 and older in long-term care or receiving community-based nursing care (P), how does implementing a standardized pressure injury prevention protocol, such as repositioning schedules, specialized support surfaces, and skin care regimens (I), compared to standard care practices (C), affect the incidence and severity of….Click below to access the full sample solution (PDF)
