NR507 Week 3: Discussion Client Scenario

Course

NR507 Advanced Pathophysiology

Instructions

  1. Application of Course Knowledge: Answer all questions/criteria with explanations and detail.
  1. Discuss the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of your assigned disease process. Which clinical manifestations observed in Janessa’s case could be explained by the pathophysiological mechanisms?
  2. Analyze Janessa’s clinical manifestations in the context of your assigned disease process. Do these findings support a diagnosis of your assigned disease process? Why or why not?
  3. Identify and justify the diagnostic tests (including labs, imaging, or other diagnostic tests) that would be most appropriate for investigating a diagnosis of your assigned disease process in Janessa. What could the results of these tests look like in your assigned disease process?
  4. Compare and contrast your response with a peer who was assigned a different condition. Does their condition fit Janessa’s case? Why or why not?

How to Approach This Assignment:

  1. Understand Your Disease Process

    • Review the pathophysiology thoroughly. Focus on how the disease affects organ systems and produces clinical signs and symptoms.

  2. Connect Pathophysiology to Clinical Findings

    • Examine Janessa’s clinical manifestations.

    • Ask yourself: “Which signs and symptoms make sense based on the underlying disease mechanisms?”

    • Be specific in linking mechanism → manifestation.

  3. Evaluate Support for Diagnosis

    • Determine whether the observed manifestations truly support your assigned disease.

    • Consider differential diagnoses and explain why your assigned condition is most likely.

  4. Identify and Justify Diagnostic Tests

    • List appropriate labs, imaging, or other tests.

    • Explain why each test is indicated and describe the expected findings.

    • Use current evidence-based literature to support your choices.

  5. Compare with Peer Responses

    • Review a peer’s assigned disease process.

    • Determine whether their condition fits Janessa’s clinical picture.

    • Provide clear rationale for why their findings do or do not match.

Key Concepts to Focus On:
  • Linking pathophysiology to clinical manifestations

  • Critical thinking in interpreting patient signs and symptoms

  • Selection and justification of appropriate diagnostic tests

  • Comparing and contrasting potential differential diagnoses

Sample Discussion

Discuss the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of your assigned disease process. Which clinical manifestations observed in Janessa’s case could be explained by the pathophysiological mechanisms?

My discussion is asthma which is a chronic inflammatory disorder of an airway that leads to reversable airflow obstruction. It is a hypersensitivity disorder especially in an allergic asthma reaction due to extrinsic factors. In asthma the inner lining of the airway becomes swollen due to inflammatory mediators like histamine and leukotrienes coming to action.…..Click below to access the full discussion sample (PDF)
