NURS-4210M Week 4: Practicum – Role of the Nurse Leader in Population Health – Group C

Discussion Assignment – How to Approach It
Questions

Post your response to the following:

  1. Identify one evidence-based behavior change that would promote health in your selected population.

  2. Suggest one specific culturally sensitive, evidence-based, measurable intervention to address the health problem for your selected population.

  3. Think in terms of measuring outcomes. What outcomes would you expect to see once the intervention(s) are in place? Be specific.

How to Approach the Questions

1. Evidence-Based Behavior Change

Start by identifying one health behavior change that could improve the health of your selected population.

To answer this:

  • Use the health problem and population you already selected in earlier weeks.

  • Look at research studies, public health reports, or scholarly articles that show which behavior change improves that health issue.

Examples:

  • Increasing physical activity to reduce obesity.

  • Smoking cessation to reduce lung disease.

  • Improved diet to prevent diabetes.

  • Regular health screenings to detect disease early.

Explain:

  • What the behavior change is.

  • Why it is supported by research.

  • Why it is important for your population.

2. Culturally Sensitive, Evidence-Based, Measurable Intervention

Next, propose one intervention that can help your population adopt the behavior change.

Your intervention should be:

Culturally sensitive

  • Respect the beliefs, traditions, and values of the population.

  • Example: using community leaders, culturally appropriate foods, or language-specific education.

Evidence-based

  • Supported by research or public health programs.

Measurable

  • There must be a way to track progress using data.

Examples of interventions:

  • Community health education workshops.

  • Free screening clinics.

  • Mobile health reminders.

  • Nutrition classes tailored to the culture of the population.

Explain:

  • What the intervention is.

  • How it will be implemented.

  • Why it fits the population’s culture.

3. Expected Outcomes (Measuring Results)

Finally, explain how success will be measured.

Outcomes should be specific and measurable.

Examples:

  • 20% increase in health screening participation.

  • Reduction in smoking rates within 6 months.

  • Improved blood pressure or blood glucose levels.

  • Increased attendance in community health programs.

Explain:

  • What change you expect to see.

  • How the change will be measured.

  • The timeframe for evaluating results.

Sample Solution

Changing behaviors is difficult for anyone but is especially for those with addiction.  Smoking in or near establishments such as schools, hospitals, restaurants, and shopping malls has become prohibited.  This rule, whether on purpose or by accident, has become a way to at least lessen the amount of smoking.  What a huge inconvenience…..Click below to access the full sample solution (PDF)
