Describe the role of the staff nurse in promoting quality in a high-performing health care organization.
Define the organizational culture of your health care organization (or one you are familiar with).
Identify the leadership style of the CEO and CNO.
Explain how senior leadership supports—or does not support—changes that require financing/budget to support patient safety.
Describe strategies you could implement to help move the organization toward becoming high-performing.
How to Approach Each Question
1. Role of the Staff Nurse
Discuss responsibilities such as:
Reporting errors and near misses
Participating in quality improvement initiatives
Advocating for patient safety
Using evidence-based practice
Promoting a just culture
Emphasize accountability and teamwork.
2. Organizational Culture
Describe whether the organization reflects:
A just culture
A culture of safety
A hierarchical or collaborative culture
Discuss openness to reporting errors and transparency.
3. Leadership Style
Identify the leadership style (e.g., transformational, transactional, servant leadership).
Briefly describe how that style impacts staff engagement and safety initiatives.
4. Leadership Support for Budgeted Changes
Explain whether leadership allocates funding for:
Safety training
Staffing resources
Technology (EHR improvements, barcoding systems)
Equipment upgrades
Provide examples of support or barriers.
5. Strategies to Move Toward High Performance
Suggest strategies such as:
