Course
NR565 Advanced Pharmacology Fundamentals
Course Description
NR565 Advanced Pharmacology Fundamentals focuses on the advanced study of pharmacologic principles and the application of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) across the lifespan. The course emphasizes safe prescribing practices, medication selection, dosing considerations, and monitoring of therapeutic outcomes for diverse patient populations. Special attention is given to pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, patient-specific considerations, and the integration of current clinical guidelines into clinical decision-making. Throughout the course, learners apply pharmacologic knowledge to manage common health conditions affecting multiple body systems, including cardiac, respiratory, endocrine, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and pain management disorders.
Course Goals
The goals of NR565 Advanced Pharmacology Fundamentals include:
- Develop advanced pharmacologic knowledge related to medication classifications, mechanisms of action, and therapeutic uses.
- Apply evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to guide safe and effective medication prescribing.
- Demonstrate understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and how these principles influence medication selection and dosing.
- Promote safe prescribing practices by identifying potential drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse effects.
- Integrate patient-specific factors such as age, comorbidities, and health status into pharmacologic decision-making.
- Enhance clinical reasoning skills through the analysis of patient cases and development of individualized treatment plans.
- Support quality patient outcomes through proper medication monitoring and evaluation of therapeutic effectiveness.
